President Pratibha Patil and actress Isha Koppikar Sunday greeted the populace of the nation on the new-fangled year celebration of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Chetti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba festivals to be rejoiced today, Monday.
Gudi Padwa or Gudhi Padwa (Marathi: गुढी पाडवा habitually mis-pronounced as guDi padwa because sounds like while vocalizations) is the Marathi given name for the Hindu righteous day of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. It is famous and celebrated greacefuly on the first day of the Chaitra month to blotch the establishment of the New year according to the lunisolar Hindu Calendar. It is conjectured that Padwa is the starting point of the expression "Pagwah", a tantamount label used in Guyana and Trinidad for Holi. The provincial new year festivals are notable in a variety of parts of the country.
